Birthstones:
Over the centuries, people have associated certain gems with certain times of the year. These associations evolved into birthstones, which became popular in the 18th century in Europe. There have been many birthstone lists. The following list was sponsored by the Jewelry Council of America in 1952, and was later adopted by the Jewelers of America and the American Gem Society.
